WITHDRAWAL POLICY
FROM THE PREPARATORY PROGRAM (GRADES 9 AND 10)
AND THE I.B. DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (GRADES 11 AND 12)
WITHDRAWAL PROCEDURE
1. Withdrawal requests for the following year MUST be handed in and approved between the time of course selection (usually in November) and the end of February; otherwise, students have committed themselves to complete one more full year of the Preparatory Program (Grades 9 and 10) or the IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11 and 12). Once approved, withdrawal will start from September of the next academic year.
2. Parents and students must give the IB DP Coordinator prior notice in writing before withdrawal (properly completed PREPARATORY PROGRAM/IB DP WITHDRAWAL FORM).
3. Withdrawing students must make an appointment to discuss their withdrawal with the IB DP Coordinator. This appointment is also be attended by the student’s parents.
4. If a student was admitted to the IB DP based on the flexible boundary permission i.e. St. Francis Xavier Secondary School is not his/her home high school, he/she may be required to return to his/her secondary home school. Permission to remain at St. Francis Xavier Secondary School in an alternate program is solely at the discretion of the home-school Principal and the Principal of St. Francis Xavier Secondary School. Flexible boundary letter is required from the home-school Principal.
5. If a student is allowed to stay at St. Francis Xavier Secondary School and he/she has been receiving bussing, than after the withdrawal bussing will not be provided.
Any level changes (Higher Level to Standard Level or Standard Level to Higher Level) must happen before the end of February of Grade 10 when planning courses for Grade 11. No level changes will be permitted after the last day of February of the student’s Grade 10 year due to scheduling requirements.
GRADES 11 AND 12: Since the International Baccalaureate Organization does not reimburse the DPCDSB for withdrawals after January 15, there will not be any fee reimbursement if, in extenuating situations and when switching schools only, the withdrawal application is not filed and approved by the Principal at least a week before January 15.
