GRADE 9 PRE-IB ADMISSION INFORMATION

Eligibility

Students from catholic, public and private schools who reside within the city of Mississauga, north and west of Highway 403andHighway 410and north to Highway 407 (please see the attached map) are eligible to apply to St. Francis Xavier SS Pre-International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

If you reside north of Highway 407 including Holy Cross and St. Raphael, please contact Notre Dame S. S. at (905) 840-2802 (http://www.dpcdsb.org/NDAME)

Admission process to Grade 9 Pre-IB for the 2017-2018 school year:

Dates to Remember:

October 11, 2016                Pre-IB Information Night (6:30 PM at the cafeteria of St. Francis Xavier S.S.)

October 31                           Preliminary Applications are due (delivered in person to Student Services at STFXSS)

November 19                       Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT - Upper Level)

                                               (Sessions start at 1: 8:30-11:00; Session 2: 11:30-2:00)

December 12                       Offers of admission to the Pre-IB Program (Grade 9)

December 16                       Deadline for the Admission Acceptance/Decline Form to be faxed

December 22                       Full applications are due to the Main Office (full applications will be posted

Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT-Upper Level)

November 19 (Saturday), 2016
The test sessions start at 8:30 and run every 2.5 hrs (100-140 applicants per session).
Session 1: 8:30-11:00; Session 2: 11:30 - 2:00). We will create the third session (2:30-5:00) only if we cannot accommodate applicants in the first two sessions.

Bring a pencil, an eraser, and a bottle of water. No calculators are allowed.

Students will be assigned one of the test session as the applications arrive and the information will be posted on our website (www.stfxss.org
 -> Guidance/Courses -> IB Program -> SSAT Test Sessions). This page will be created once we begin receiving Preliminary Application packages.

Selection Process

 

The selection process involves rating of applicants based on:

 

  • their performance in Grade 7 core subjects - end-of the-year Report Card (English, French, Mathematics, and Science) – 33% of the final evaluation;
  • their performance in the remaining subjects 22%;
  • the homeroom teacher’s evaluation of the student’s Learning Skillsand Work Habits (Responsibility, Independent Work, Initiative, Organization, Collaboration, Self-Regulation) -- 5%;
  • the Secondary School Admission Test-Upper Level administered by the PrepSkills, Inc. at our school (the essay portion of the test is not administered; more information about the SSAT can be found at http://prepskills.com/ssat/what-tested-ssat or at www.ssat.org)  –  40%
